A Concern About African Politics and How We Spend Our Time

A Concern About African Politics and How We Spend Our Time

African progress is hindered. It is weighed down by power struggles, weak institutions, greed, tribalism, nepotism, and an absence of term limitations as those in power fight to keep it for life. Don’t people understand the consequences of bad governance?

For over three years, flooding has dislodged my ancestral home, insecurity is found in all corners of the nation, and people continue encountering starvation and disease. Unfortunately, the youths of the developing world would rather debate politics than talk about the pressing issues mentioned above. We need engineers to research and devise a mechanism for freshwater management. Where are they? South Sudan needs young scientists to study traditional medicine and recover old information from previous generations instead of wasting time on social media debating politics. We cannot be all politicians. Scientists are more critical and necessary than politicians. All the advances around you are made by devoted, mostly invisible scholars.

South Sudan will only escape conflict if people cease discussing regional lineages, Payam, county and state, and invest in national politics. Time should be spent on innovation and business visions. We must cease discussing provincial borders. Bordering countries encroach on all boundaries while the youths are busy land-grabbing and discussing interior state barriers.

Also, I would recommend a review of social media usage. We should check the benefits and compare the advantages with the disadvantages. We must reduce our time spent in clubhouses and on live streams. They are just a waste of time. Instead, we should invest our precious time reading exciting books (even for just an hour each day), talking to scholars about new ideas, and being in touch with elderly people who can mentor and guide us.

There is a great benefit to watching inspirational movies and business videos. Go for a walk and eat healthily. Time is precious and non-reversible; it cannot be retrieved or recovered. Mark and businesses make their money, while we make nothing on social media. Let’s think twice.

The lost boys are no longer boys. They are fathers and will go to a retirement village soon. You can start working on the path to your vision and mission. Otherwise, your next destination is the retirement village. Guidance from chief Peter Deng of the Foundation of the traditional Council of Chief Inc. (FTCC)
